. . drug dealer by the name of Khalnayak (Khalnayak's identity is revealed to be Jayant, the brother of a constable.) Khalnayak is beaten up by Jayant and his brother's attempt to kill Khalnayak is thwarted by a woman. The woman flees from the scene, and is identified as Meera, the mother of Jayant's fiancée. The police investigates the case further. The movie was later remade in Hindi as Gunahon Ka Devta in 1993, and in Tamil as Ullasa Ullasa in 1996.
Plot
Khalnayak is a police inspector (Sanjay Dutt) working in Police Station 9 of New Delhi. His friend and subordinate, Inspector Joshi (Jackie Shroff), is killed by a hit-and-run driver, but Khalnayak is unable to arrest the driver due to a bribe he receives from a rival inspector. Khalnayak has no choice but to commit suicide.
Joshi's son Vishal (Anupam Kher) gets angry with him for not taking action on the hit-and-run case and threatens him by saying that his wife will file a case for the murder of his father. Vishal's fiancée Meera (Madhuri Dixit) is involved in drug trafficking. She lures Vishal into a trap with the help of her lover Karan (Akshay Kumar) and Vikram (Raakhee), by telling him that if he does not fight with her and her associates, they will inform the police.
Vishal and Khalnayak clash repeatedly and are not able to bring the truth to light. The latter is beaten by Vishal. Later, Meera introduces Khalnayak to her other friends, including a London-based drug smuggler named Rajesh (Kader Khan) who owns a guesthouse, and a London-based drug smuggler called Gogel (Shafi Inayat). Rajesh also reveals to Khalnayak that Vikram is Meera's lover and a drug addict.
Jayant (Shammi) and his brother Simran (Rakesh Bedi) have no clue that their younger brother Jayant (Sanjay Dutt) is working for the police as Khalnayak, and they also have no clue that he is being targeted by the drug traffickers. Simran tells them
